Waterford City and County Council is inviting 22 Transition Year Students from the Presentation Secondary School to participate in the Skills @ Work Programme which is an initiative run by Business in the Community (BITC) in conjunction with WCCC. The programme aims to introduce students to the world of work in a positive environment, and in the case of Waterford City and County Council , specifically highlighting the career opportunities in the Council. 4 staff members from different areas of the Council will be talking to the students about their job and their general story; from education, to where they started work, to their current role. The programme will follow up with a series of Mock Interviews in March where the TY students will present themselves for interview in their chosen career area and will receive positive feedback after the programme.

On Thursday 19th January 2017 the students participated in the Discussion Forum from 2-3 in the Large Room, City Hall and the Press were invited to attend a Mock Council Meeting chaired by Cllr Jason Murphy, Deputising for the Mayor of Waterford City and County Council.
