Senator Paudie Coffey has welcomed the Government's backing for a new modular cath lab at University Hospital Waterford and said his focus over the coming weeks and months will be to ensure the facility will be delivered "as soon as possible".

The hugely positive move comes after Senator Coffey held several face-to-face talks with Health Minister Simon Harris in recent weeks during which he stressed the need for a modular lab to ease pressure on cardiac waiting times at the hospital.

Senator Coffey also acknowledged the efforts made by his constituency colleagues on the cross-party South East Oireachtas Group .
