Waterford Mayors Elected

Colr. Pat Nugent, F.G. has been elected as Mayor of Waterford City and County. Pat has been an elected representative to Waterford County Council since 2004. He represents the West Waterford-Dungarvan area, is married to Eileen and they have eight children. He works as a farm advisor with Glan Bia. Pat is a lifelong member of Clashmore, Kinsalebeg GAA club and a member of the Ireland Newfoundland Connections Committee. Keenly active in the community Pat seeks to assist as many community groups as possible. He is a member o f the Dungarvan Pigeon Club and is particularly committed to assisting older people to reduce the burden on them caused by rural isolation. Pat has secured substantial funding over the years for use by many local deserving groups such as the Scouts and the No Name Club. Exceptionally public spirited and generous he is an effective fundraiser for many deserving causes. A man who appreciates the natural beauty of his electoral area, he has worked tirelessly to provide quality facilities such as playgrounds which enhance the local area as a tourist destination. He is a keen cyclist and has recently undertaken an impressive 600km cycle to raise funds in support of a French Hospice. Pat is a compassionate, trusted and hardworking councillor who will continue to put the best interests of the people within his electoral area.

Colr. Sean Reinhardt, an Independent candidate on the City Council was elected Metropolitan Mayor on Friday last by 11 votes to 4 for Colr. Cha O’Neill.

Those voting with Colr. Reinhardt were Sinn Fein (4); Independents (3); Fianna Fail 3.

Those voting for Colr. O’Neill were Independents: Collr. Daniels, Collr. Mary Roche, Collr. Cha O’Neill; Eddie Mulligan, Fianna Fail.

Collr. Reinhardt was co-opted to the Council in 2011 to create a vacancy by Deputy John Halligan on his election to Dail Eireann. He has since subsequently cut his political ties with Deputy Halligan when he entered government with the Independent Alliance. Sean was re-elected in 2014.
