Thomas Barr begins his season in Geneva

Having withdrawn from the Manchester Games due to a slight foot problem Thomas Barr makes his first appearance of the season on Thursday next in Geneva Switzerland in the 400 metres hurdles. The season ahead is a very important one for him with two major championships the World's in London in August and the World University Games in Taipei in the same month.

Munster Senior and Master's on Sunday

Waterford will be well represented at the Munster Senior and Master's Track and Field Championships in Cork IT Track on Sunday next with the fixture getting under way at 10 am, and full timetable is available on Munster Athletics Website.

All Ireland Schools details

In Tullamore on Saturday last at the All Ireland Secondary Schools Track and Field finals a number of athletes from Waterford schools collected medals. In the 3000 metres senior walk it was a great occasion for the O'Connor twins Órla and Anna from Waterpark as they were first and third respectively. Órla's winning performance was outstanding she was timed at 13 minutes 56.77 seconds and well clear of the opposition, James Murphy Árd Scoil na Mara Tramore was a very close second in the senior long jump with 6.77 metres the winner jumped 6.79,another second placings went to Patrick Fitzgerald St Augustine's in the intermediate pole vault, third placings went to Shane Monagle Árd Scoil na Mara in the 110 metres hurdles at senior level, Miceál Power ran a great race in the senior 5000 metres and was still in contention with one lap to go but eventually wilted to finish in third place, Aleksander Wagner was third in the intermediate triple jump and Alannah Kelly again third in the junior pole vault all from St Augustine's and St Declan's Kilmacthomas were third in the 4 x 400 metres senior boys relay, Katie Nolke Ursuline Convent had two notable fourth place performances in the long jump with a personal best and the high jump and others to gain 4th placings were Emily O'Mahony St Augustine's in the intermediate triple jump and Tara Ramasawmy Presentation in the under 16 1 mile. A girl who competes with Waterford AC Grace Furlong won the senior triple jump with 11.41 metres she was representing CBS New Ross.

Wins in Ennis in Munster Juvenile

Ennis was the location on Saturday and Sunday last for the Munster under 9 to 13 Championships and a small entry from Waterford competed. For Waterford AC 0Sarah Abullo was first in the u 11 long jump and 600 m and second in the team competition with Grace Furlong, Andrew Scanlon won the u12 shot putt, David Scanlon the u 13 javelin. For Finisk Valley Lucy Nugent was third in the sprint u 9 and with Sarah Flavin 4 th they won the team event. Their girls relay team won the squad comprised these two with Siun Mernin and Brooke Dunford and Eddie Raicevic won the u 9 sprint and Corey Scanlon was 2nd in the u 12 shot putt.

Carrick on Suir Results

80 competed in the Annual Deadman's 5 miles road race in Carrick on Suir last Friday evening including quite a few from Waterford and the convincing winner was William Maunsell Clonmel in 25 minutes 21 seconds, Niall Sheil St Killian's Wexford was second in 25.54 and William Stephen's Coolquill was third in 26.11,Trevor Power Waterford AC was 4th in First lady home was Sylvia Malone Waterford in 30.08,Áine Roche Clonmel was second in 32.02 and Kate Veale West Waterford was third in 32.11It was race 3 in the Outfield Sports Series and organised superbly as usual by Carrick on Suir Road Runners.

Road Races

On Friday next June 9 th the 15 th Annual Old Still Bar Clashmore 5 miles starts at 7.30 pm, Its race 6in the Intersport Elvery's/Asics Summer Series, Entries for the race will be taken at the Old Still Bar in the village of Clashmore off the main Dungarvan to Youghal Road. On Sunday next the Annual Little South 4 miles road race is in Kilmacow at 2 pm and entries here will be taken on the day in Kilmaccow . Next week we have the Annual Faithlegg Golf Course 4 miles run on Wednesday June 14 th at 7 pm entries being taken on

Saturday and Sunday June 17th / 18th: Munster U14 - U19 Championships: CIT. Cork, 9.30 am,Two fixtures are coming up on Saturday June 24 th and these are the Tailteann Schools Inter provincial in Morton Stadium and the All Ireland u9,10,11 Games and relays in Tullamore, A local fixture to note; Waterford Community Games Athletic finals at RSC on Sunday June 25 th.
