Swift Reaction Needed After RSC Nightmare

Waterford United will be looking to quickly bounce back after their 4-0 mauling at the hands of Mervue United at the RSC on Saturday, the second such in three games against the Galwaymen at home. The Blues travel to Ferrycarrig Park this Friday night needing an immediate reaction against Wexford Youths, a win which can then put the Mervue game in the 'bad night at the office' category, and enable the side to get back on track with their promotion challenge. Both management and players are reportedly devastated at the inexplicably poor performance on the night, and are determined to begin to repair the damage with a win over a Wexford side who themselves overcame defeats in their first two matches to win away at Salthill at the weekend. The game kicks off on Good

Waterford hurlers provide thrilling finish

Waterford Senior hurlers collected the necessary two Allianz National league points in Walsh Park in what was surely one of the sweetest wins of recent years. The Deise management under the guidance of Michael Ryan have been rebuilding the team this year following the departure of established stars like John Mullane, Eoin McGrath and Eoin Kelly giving the young brigade the opportunity of laying claim to a regular starting place. A win over Clare in the opening round was followed by a draw with Cork and was a positive start to the league campaign. A visit to Nowlan Park proved fruitless as All-Ireland champions Kilkenny came out five points better on the scoreboard. Flattering to the hosts as Waterford perhaps, were victims of their own downfall having conceded two goals of the soft variety. Things were

LONGFORD TOWN 2 - 1 waterfOrd united Across the Back by Booter

IT was defeat on the road for Waterford United as they suffered their first defeat of the season against table toppers Longford Town at the City Calling Stadium on Saturday night last as the home side claimed victory by two goals to one.

After getting the better of Tony Cousins side in their league playoff game last season, the Blues just couldn't build on their opening night point against Finn Harps in this fixture as goals from Michael Isichei (36 mins) and David O'Sullivan (45+1) cancelled out Paudie Quinn's goal.Quinn gave the visitors the lead after only 13 minutes but the home side came from behind to win all three points, however it was an unjust result in the eyes of manager Paul O'Brien as his side "smashed them

Waterford United v Cobh Ramblers at the RSC Monday, March 19, 2013 (KO 7.45pm) EA Sports Cup Round One.

Blues Again Set To Welcome Old Foes

Having fallen foul of the sudden blizzard conditions on Suirside last week, Waterford United's first competitive tie against Cobh Ramblers in over five years is set for this Tuesday night at the RSC (KO 7.45pm).

The sides last met in the Munster Senior Cup in February 2008, with Cobh winning out 8-7 in a marathon penalty shoot-out, and it's been a further year since their last meeting in this competition, which threw the teams together with regularity over the '90s and noughties, with Ramblers again taking the tie by the odd goal in three in May of 2007.

In fact, though the surprisingly short League head-to-head record (the teams missed each other 15 of Cobh's 24 seasons between

Kippers Star Shone Brightly

A well attended benefit meeting in aid of Ferrybank Scouts (celebrating their 40th anniversary) featured the final of the Friends of Kilcohan and Waterford Track Supporters Club A2 550 yard stake plus the three first round heats (four to qualify) of the Pat O Hehir, Greyhound Transporter, A6 race dogs stake.

Despite being a number of days in season the Kieran O Brien owned and Jim Scully trained Kippers Star (Hondo Black-Kippers Doll) 4/1 ran out a gutsy winner of the A2 final in a decent 30.17. After a bright start from trap two ‘Kippers' did well to see off the back stretch challenge of Leahs Impact and Allis Pippa. Knuckling down to the task in hand ‘Kippers' saw the 550 yard trip out to the limit to defeat ‘Allis' by one and a half lengths. The lightly

World Cross Country on Sunday

Bydgoszcz in Poland is the venue on Sunday next for the World Cross

Country Championships for senior and junior men and women, the championships were also held there in 2010. Now held every two years

beginning in 2011 the event still draws a huge entry from all over the world Since 1981 athletes from Kenya and Ethiopia have dominated the

team competitions in both the senior men's and women's races and they have also dominated the individual results in the men's senior race,

the last European to win it was the Olympic Marathon Champion from Los Angeles in 1984 Carlos Lopez from Portugal who won it in 1984 and 1985. ( Mohammed Mourhit won it for Belgium in 2000 and 2001 but he was not a native of Belgium), the women's race in 1998 was of course won by our

There was a large contingent of Waterford supporters among the 6687 patrons in Nowlan Park on Monday last for the meeting of Waterford and Kilkenny in the third round of the Allianz National Hurling League. Most, if not indeed all, of the Waterford supporters would believe that on the day this was a game that the visitors allowed to slip away. For the most part the Deise gave as good as they got and after an initial burst by Kilkenny, it was Waterford who dominated the exchanges in the opening half and deservedly led 0-11 to 1-6 at the break. The goal for Kilkenny coming from Ger Aylward following a defensive error where a short puck out did not find the intended target. Indeed in the conditions where Waterford played with the aid of a strong breeze in that opening

Our medal presentation was a great success and took place last Saturday evening at 7.30pm in our new function Room at Ballygunner GAA.

The function was attended by over 100 people, players, families and friends including County Board Chairman Tom Cunningham who graciously called off all his other arrangements to be there.

Our room looked beautiful, decked with black and red bunting and red carpet, and looked better than any hotel could offer.

A very nice DVD was put together with team pictures and action photos playing on our new screen with background music setting the tone. Top quality buffet finger food was served with tea, coffee and soft drinks and crisps for the kids .

Great credit and thanks goes to the organising committee of Gail O'Sullivan, Eddie Flynn, Nicky Walsh and JJ Haran, Billy O'Sullivan and all who helped.

Perfidious AlbionThe recent statement by the UK’s Brexit Minister responsible for their leaving the European Union David Davis really threw a spanner in the political works last week. His remark that the joint text agreed between the UK and the EU concerning a soft Brexit for Ireland was more a statement of intent rather than the legal enforceable international agreement between both parties caused consternation in Europe and Ireland.Ireland’s Minister for Foreign Affairs Simon Coveney was quick to …
