Going to the dogs

It will probably be "house full" signs at Kilcohan Greyhound Stadium on Saturday 18th May at 7pm. as supporters of Waterford GAA gather for a fund raising venture in aid of County teams training. Many of the stars of Waterford hurling and football will be in attendance with a real novel event during proceedings which will see players from the two senior teams in opposition. Now that should really carry some intense rivalry and maybe a little cheating from what I hear. With all benefits of the night going directly to the training fund it is the ideal opportunity for young and old to have a good night's entertainment knowing that you are helping the team's prepare for their upcoming campaigns. Admission tickets are E10 with family tickets available E20 which gives admission to two adults and

salthill 1 - 2 waterford united Across the Back by Booter

Despite having to play second fiddle to Salthill Devon for long periods, Waterford United reeled off their second win on the trot when they came back home from Galway with a vital win on Friday night last. The game was poor standard-wise, but a brace of goals from Paudie Quinn made the long journey home a happy one for the loyal band of supporters who made the trip to the west.

The hosts almost took the lead on 18 minutes when Brian Gaffney rose high to meet a corner kick taken by Derek O'Brien but Michael Coady kicked the ball off the line. Waterford took the lead on 21 minutes when Darragh Walshe displayed good footwork before firing in a shot which the Salthill Devon goalkeeper could only parry and when the

late strike nets blues another three points

It took until the third minute of injury time, but Paudie Quinn's second strike of the night at the Drom Soccer Park earned the Blues a priceless second three points in a row, and begins their climb up the table towards the business end. On the back foot for a lot of the second half, United nevertheless kept themselves in the game, and were ready to ruthlessly take the vital opportunity when it presented itself. With confidence slowly growing, another testing tie is in the offing when Cobh Ramblers arrive at the RSC this Friday, and a third win on the spin would surely signal a turnaround of the team's fortunes, and see them re-establish their title challenge. Much rests on this key game on Friday night!

The powerful combination of Aidan and Joseph O'Brien took centre stage at Leopardstown on Sunday, teaming up to complete a treble that was highlighted by the win of Battle Of Marengo in the Group 3 P. W. McGrath Memorial Ballysax Stakes. The son of Galileo was considered a leading Epsom Derby prospect going into the race and he didn't disappoint, leading over a furlong out and drawing away to score by 1 3/4 lengths. The O'Brien's other stakes success came in the Listed Heritage Stakes, with Declaration Of War stamping himself as a Group 1 prospect by running out the impressive 2 1/2 lengths victor. Waterford Duathlon

Weather conditions were not kind to the racers in this year’s Waterford Duathlon, with 79 competitors braving the elements to toe the line outside Butlerstown GAA Centre on Saturday morning. The race consisted of a 5km run, followed by a three lap cycle totalling 20km, finished off with a 3km run. Aubrey Storey of Waterford Triathlon Club battled the wet and windy conditions to give a dominant performance, leading the race from gun to tape. He was pushed hard in the first run by junior competitor Damon Crowley of WTC, who went on to post the day’s fastest split time in the second run. However, on the bike,

Carrick Tri Club’s Gerard O’Loughlin’s racebest split of 32:40 for the 20k meant he left T2 just seconds behind Storey for the second run.

Galway end Waterford interest

It was a make or break game for both Waterford and Galway on Sunday last in the Allianz National Hurling League as the winner would claim a place in the knockout semi-final stage while for the loser it was the end of the road and worse still, could potentially place them in a relegation dogfight. Waterford sat on top of the league with victories over Clare and Tipperary and a draw with Cork e ensuring that anything other than a loss would, on the head to head, put them in the semi-final. For Galway it was simple, a win and the would progress. After the late late show against Tipperary the previous week there was real anticipation within the local followers, allied to our recent good record against the Tribesmen, that we could get the required result

Paradise papersOne of the most surprising things about the release of the copious amounts of tax details of some of the richest people on the planet wasn't the names of the people involved but the fact that three of them were actors from Mrs. Brown's Boys. Between them the three had accounts nearing 2 million euros in off-shore accounts and let's face it, these people aren't exactly Robert De Niros or Meryl Streeps but three bog standard, and that's putting it mildly, actors, from a middling comedy serie …
