Last year, almost 6,000 people used Alcohol Action Ireland’s service finder to search for help.

Alcohol Action Ireland Director Fiona Ryan said: "The service finder had originally been set up to cope with the calls and emails to the office from people looking for help and information, usually for a loved one. The World is getting older, yet the topic of ageing and older people rarely makes the headlines in Ireland or around the World. Age Action in partnership with Waterford One World Centre is coming to Waterford to give a workshop called Older People Everywhere. Ageing affects us all and despite many differences between the lives of older people in Ireland and countries in the Global South (‘developing countries'), there are also many similarities. This workshop will explore the role and challenges of older people in Ireland and the Global South in terms of their roles such as being care-givers, leaders, farmers etc. We would also like to hear your views on how older people can be included in and consulted on issues that affect them, particularly when it comes to international policy on Ageing and Development.

The Waterford Country Market has been in existence for over 50 years. As time has gone by we have had to move premises occasionally but since the 1970s we have opened every Friday at St. Olaf's Hall behind City Square just down from the Friary between 8am-1pm.

Over the years many producers have come and gone but we still have two that have been with us almost all that time. Mrs. Dunphy (who is now 90 years old) still comes every week with her fresh laid duck and chicken eggs as does Mrs. Power, who although not quite so advanced in years, still comes with her freshly baked breads and cakes. Both of these ladies are rightly proud of their produce and enjoy meeting their regular customers as well as any new faces that come through the door.
