STaying Healthy with the seasons

Last week I wrote about how we often over-complicate things, and this is true of most people’s approach to moving with the seasons. Our diet is one example. Until relatively recently, what we ate used to depend on the seasons: but now seasonal vegetables and fruit

The Royal College of Physicians of Ireland ’s Policy Group on Alcohol and Alcohol Action Ireland, the national charity for alcohol-related issues, are calling for the introduction of minimum pricing on alcohol in their Pre-Budget Submissions.

In a joint statement, the organisations said: "There is compelling evidence that pricing is one of the most effective ways to tackle alcohol-related harm. Minimum pricing will set a floor price beneath which alcohol cannot be sold. These cheap alcoholic drinks are consumed by the heaviest drinkers, who are most at risk of alcohol-related illness and death. Young people, who generally have the least disposable income, also tend to purchase the cheapest alcohol products.

"Minimum pricing will not affect the price of a pint, or any alcohol products sold in pubs or restaurants. It will only affect the very cheapest alcohol products sold in the off-trade,

An AA Home Insurance survey has found that men are more than 3 times more likely to do the maintenance around the house than women. 80% of men compared to just 25% of women say they do most of the DIY.

When it comes to outsourcing though, 19% of females say that a handyman does most of the DIY, compared to 14% of men.

"Whether this is because women actually hire more handymen or because women are more likely to admit to hiring one than their male counterparts is uncertain." says Conor Faughnan Director of Consumer Affairs at The AA. "A lot of basic DIY tasks can be carried out by the householder, male or female, but often people are reluctant and do not feel competent to carry them out. The males are a bit more likely to be ‘have a go

  • Children in the womb deserve b...

The Government wants us to vote "yes" in the abortion referendum in order to delete unborn children's right to life and allow abortion on demand in the first 12 weeks of pregnancy. Abortion campaigners claim that there is no human being yet alive by this point. That's why they think abortion on demand is permissible. They are completely wrong. By 12 weeks the baby in the womb has a beating heart, can swallow and yawn, can kick, stretch and jump, has arms, legs, fingers and toes, has fingernails and hair, h …
