Waterford's status as a destination for lucrative conference business has been boosted by the success of a major local government conference held in the city last weekend (7/8 March).
Waterford Cllr Hilary Quinlan who was chief organiser of the event said the city had "put its best foot forward."
Cllr Quinlan (pictured) who is President of the Association of County & City Councils added: "We had almost 200 representatives from councils all over Ireland and the feedback was unanimous in its praise for Waterford and its attractions."
Cllr Quinlan said that conferences could bring good business to Waterford in the tourist off-season: "Waterford has so much to offer with quality hotels and good accessibility by road and rail. Based on the weekend's success the city can sell itself to conference organisers as a destination capable of handling large numbers of delegates."
