‘Waterford Crafts’ is now announced as the brand new name for the 33-year-old craft group formerly known as Waterford Homecrafts.

The hugely successful 40 plus co-operative of expert crafters are delighted that the name change has come about by natural evolution and growth. Chairperson Mary O’Neill explained, “Our new name better reflects the continual evolution of the group, its members and its future direction. Today there is quite a stark difference between what our group of professional crafters offer in comparison to what was on offer now some 33 years ago when the co-operative was first established.

These days the works produced are of international standard and many of the Waterford Crafters are also members of the Design & Crafts Council of Ireland, so we know that the name ‘Waterford Crafts’ is a greater reflection of the very high standard and quality products created by our expert craftsmen and women.”

Originally established in 1984, Waterford Crafts began running craft fairs and events for local crafts people and hobbyists.

Over the past 33 years, the group has grown from strength to strength and continues to host Waterford’s longest running annual Christmas Craft Fair at Garter Lane Arts Centre every December.

Committee member and crafter Mauney Doyle says that “We are delighted to announce our new name, the craft industry has changed greatly over the last 33 years and so has our group of crafters. Our craft products and our craft fairs are more professional than ever and with over 40 highly skilled and expert craft members within our group many with national and international acclaim the new name is a better fit.”

Waterford Crafts will continue to develop and build on their success providing professional craft fairs showcasing some of the finest quality products currently available anywhere in Ireland. Mary O’Neill explained that “We are very excited about the name change and the group are focused on continuing to provide highly acclaimed craft events not only in Waterford, the South East of Ireland but also nationally.”The next ‘Waterford Crafts’ event will be the annual Christmas Craft Fair in the Garter Lane Arts Centre which will take place during the Winterval festival from Tuesday 28th November to Saturday 23rd December.
