Festival of Travel Writing, Lismore

Lismore, County Waterford will be the place to a literal journey across the globe this June 13 to 16, a wordy programme of events is in place for the 11th Immrama Festival of Travel Writing, which takes place in the picturesque town of Lismore in county Waterford.

Some of the world's top international travel writers will descend upon the heritage town of Lismore enthralling audiences with tales of their travels and adventures including one of the world's most highly-regarded travel writers, Paul Theroux who will take to the stage at Immrama on Saturday, June 15 at 3pm. Perhaps best known for Ghost Train to the Eastern Star and The Great Railway Bazaar, his most recent work is The Last Train to Zona Verde: My Ultimate African Safari.

The Theatre Royal on The Mall in the cultural heart of the city is looking forward to welcoming visitors both local and tourist into the historic building this summer. From Tuesday 25th June the theatre will host guided tours to the very bowels of this historic building. For only €5 get a taste of what it's like to stand on the stage in all its glory.

Waterford Kickboxing Association (WKA) in conjunction with Forum Waterford are running "FIGHT CLUB AT THE FORUM" a white collar boxing tournament in aid of local charities. This tournament, the first of its kind in Waterford will run for the month of July at Forum Waterford on every Friday and Saturday night. With teams taking part from Kilkenny, Carlow and Dublin this event has become a regional competition and now County pride is at stake. The Dunmore East Rambling Festival is a bi-annual weekend walking event that takes place in and around the picturesque fishing village of Dunmore East. WIT students from BSc (Hons) Entertainment Systems, have been shortlisted for a major International Radio Award at the annual New York Festivals Event. This is the equivalent of the Academy Awards for radio production and the students have been nominated alongside some of the best broadcasters in the world, including the BBC, ABC, American NPR and some closer to home, RTE Radio 1, Lyric FM, Newstalk and Today FM.

WIT has been shortlisted in the Best Radio Drama category for its 'Alternative Nativity Play', a comedy retelling of the classic nativity story set in modern day Ireland. It was scripted, performed, recorded, edited and mixed by 4 third year students from BSc (Hons) Entertainment Systems: Sarah Loh, Paul Hassett, Lukas Pinczura and Stephen Walsh.
