Since the release of her debut album ' 13 Tracks' in 2005, which came like a bolt from the blue astounding music media and aficionados alike, Julie Feeney has labored tirelessly, to become one of Ireland' s most unique acts and desired exports. For Julie it has been nothing but a labour of love.

In the 8 years that have passed since those first whisperings of the multi-instrumentalist circulated, Julie has garnered massive accolades both at home and abroad for her music and performance. The world premiere of Alan Cliff's first full-length play: "Salvation". Produced by Stagemad Theatre Company and directed by James Power, takes to the stage at Garter Lane Arts Centre May 21 to 25th@8pm. Salvation takes the audience on a haunting journey through the experiences, pressures and relationships of the inmates inside a nineteenth century Irish Workhouse. Come and witness the extreme poverty and harrowing circumstances these inmates were challenged by as they try and harness one objective: survival. The Sapphires are four young Aboriginal girls - Gail, Julie, Kay and Cynthia - who are discovered one night in a dusty outback tavern by Irish talent scout Dave (Chris O'Dowd). With a sharp ear for honey-tinged voices, he convinces the girls to switch their act from country and western to rhythm and blues. Dave vows to make The Sapphires shine and against all odds, he pulls it off: the Sapphires' first gig takes them to war-torn Southeast Asia, where they entertain the troops. Inspired by a true story The Sapphires is a celebration of great music and triumph in the face of adversity.

Numerous events are taking place across the country as part of the Bealtaine Festival 2013 and Garter Lane Cinema is no exception with a double bill on Sunday, May 19th. First up is The Glenn Miller Story, starring Jimmy Stewart and June Allyson at 5.30pm, followed by The Sapphires at 8pm, featuring Moone Boy, Chris O'Dowd.

The Glenn Miller Story traces Miller's rise from pit-orchestra trombone player to leader of the most successful big band of his era.

Directed by Anthony Mann and with Henry Mancini as musical director the film's musical credentials are impeccable.

Watch out for Louis Armstrong leading a jam session on Basin Street Blues in a speakeasy in Harlem, and singer Frances Langford doing Chattanooga Choo-Choo in a well-boned strapless dress
