Join writer Petra Kindler on Friday 22nd March at 6pm as she talks about her unlikely journey from being a compulsive reader in a family that valued books only as handy missiles, to becoming a literary translator of eminent authors such as Anne Enright, Sebastian Barry or Eugene McCabe. On the evening, Petra will muse on her 25-year detour through the "evil universe" of advertising while explaining how she also came to write and publish short stories, magazine articles, a children's play and other stage material without ever considering herself a writer, sharing on the night her innermost disgust for the yawning cliché that Germans are devoid of humour, conveniently ignoring the fact that humour tends to occur in the shape of language, and reveal the awesome truth that is forever lost on the culturally complacent: humour does occur in

Top Oil launches annual amateur photography competition themed:

‘Fueling Creativity'

Two Waterford winners last year

Top Oil have launched their annual amateur photography competition, themed: ‘Fueling Creativity'. The 12 most creative and unique images will feature in the 2014 Top Oil calendar. Last year Waterford's Eamonn Phelan and Aoife Millea saw their images feature in the calendar as the August and December shots. Eamonn captured a vibrant image of a flying wasp, a sight almost invisible in real life. Aoife's stunning shot features an Irish seaside town wrapped in snow, yet full of colour. This year's competition is open to all amateur photographers in Waterford who can capture a shot that is in keeping with the theme and is taken in Ireland.

Top Oil are encouraging Waterford's amateur photographers to get involved again this year as the entries from the county in previous year's

Saturday March 30th sees the long awaited EP launch "Rise and Shine" for the Propeller Palms in Shortt's Live Music Venue.

After having a brief listen to the tracks we certainly are in for a treat because the raw power and soul of the new material leaves one begging for more, from punching bass riffs to snappy brass sections and the raw gritty vocals of front man Paul Butler, there is too much to mention as it truly is a spell binding master class in music, to say it is flawless is an understatement. Propeller Palms began in 2009 as a gathering of friends who came together for Tuesday night sessions to script some original music. Varied influences contributed to the overall sound due to the diversity of the six core musicians, who, over the years had played with an array

Travel chaos as strike likely to go aheadWith the Bus Eireann strike for February 20th looking as if it will go ahead it seems that the workers in that particular section of the C.I.E. company will get the overwhelming support from their co-workers in Bus Eireann and Irish Rail. This will mean that public transport in the country will effectively come to a standstill next week. Considering that some bus stations share the same facilities between Bus Eireann and Dublin Bus it is understandable that some p …
