It is interesting to think that thousands of people will be making history this Friday by doing nothing more out of the ordinary than going to the pub or buying alcohol from any number of various places.

The 90 year ban on alcohol sales on Good Friday has finally come to an end and while there are some people who might be sad to see it go, the overwhelming majority of people in the country will only be too glad that they have now got the choice to enjoy a drink if they want to.

Naturally enough the Vintners Association have been one of the main backers of getting rid of the ban and hopefully it will do some good for their trade considering how much it has been hit since the economic downturn. It will also be good for the tourist trade for many tourists come here to experience our unique bar culture.

Sometimes it's amazing to think that the ban lasted as long as it did.

    Religious ToleranceAt a public meeting last week to discuss the plans for a new mosque in Kilkenny, it seemed that out of the crowd of approximately 200 that attended, the overwhelming majority were against the idea.
