Isn't it terrible when you're trying to ingratiate yourself with people who are rich, powerful and influential that all that really happens is that you get in trouble with the people that you are supposedly there to represent. But that is exactly what has happened to the Taoiseach Leo Varadkar when he went to Washington and tried way too hard and way too much to get in with President Trump and came out with some guff about how they exchanged telephone calls some time ago about a wind farm and that the President got exactly what he wanted.

There is a way of buttering someone up and then there is putting your foot in it. It'll be interesting to see how the Taoiseach gets himself out of this one.

    Religious ToleranceAt a public meeting last week to discuss the plans for a new mosque in Kilkenny, it seemed that out of the crowd of approximately 200 that attended, the overwhelming majority were against the idea.
