Now that Catalonia has declared it's independence from Spain the central Spanish Government has stepped in pretty sharpish to quell any further moves on behalf of the nascent Catalonian Republic. The last number of weeks have seen a tense stand off between the Spanish and Catalan governments but now everything is out in the open and it remains to be seen what exactly will happen. Spain has already abolished the Catalan government and said that it will have an open election in the region before the end of the year. Despite the thousands who came out to cheer the news of the declaration of the new Catalan republic there are also many others who live there who want to remain a part of Spain. In this tug of war it remains to be seen who will finally win out.
