As much as the Fine Gael party must be congratulating themselves over the approval figures of Leo Varadkar they are as nothing as compared to our President Michael D. Higgins. Out in Australia and New Zealand at the moment it is back here at home that he seems to be at his most popular with 75% of the electorate saying that they want him to continue into a second term as President.

When he was recently at the Ploughing Championships Michael D. was asked specifically whether he will take on a second term but said in his usually quiet and respectful way of his that he wouldn't be making a decision for the next year or so. At 76 years of age it is a tough ask to take on another term of the Presidency but with so many people in the country backing him how could he refuse it? Plus he would be doing us all a favour by having one less election.

    As dry as the SaharaIt seems that whenever the weather in Ireland goes a little bit extreme, we are somehow incapable of dealing with it. It has already happened so far this year with the snow that totally disrupted the country for about a week and also later on when some areas in the country were flooded due to excess rain.
