The idea that three homeless people died last week is awful in the extreme when you think about the conditions that these people would have had to live in in their last days. Naturally enough we don’t know if being homelss led to in some part to their deaths but even if it didn't it certainly wouldn't have helped them in their last days.

Living on the streets, living in a hostel with your children or even living in a tent are not the way that most people would want to live their lives but some people don't have any option. It is no wonder that housing minister Eoghan Murphy has called for an emergency housing summit this week due to the deaths. Of course it's too little too late for those who have passed away but hopefully it will help those who are homeless at the moment.

    HealthCatastropheMary Harney, when she was Minister for Health, many years ago, declared that 300 people on trolleys in hospital corridors was a 'health crisis'. Now here we are in 2018 and we have nearly twice that number of people on trolleys within a hospital system that barely seems able to cope.
