There is a certain sense of inevitablity to the news that there is going to be further investigation into crime figures complied by the Gardai and that their beleagured Commissioner may be soon coming under further scrutiny. The National Bureau of Criminal Investigation has said that it is going to be looking into murder and manslaughter figures to see if there are any discrepancies and if there has been massaging of the figures. While there is a feeling that people hope nothing untoward will come to light faith in the Gardai's recording of facts and figures has been severely dented of late and even when questioned last week Noirin O'Sullivan could not give any definitive answer as to whether any further discrepancies will be unearthed.
