When such a public body as the Gardai come out and say that they have made a serious error in over 14,500 driving convictions you have to seriously wonder what is going on in that organisation. When that is combined with other errors such as the calculation of the number of crimes supposedly reported and the number of crimes supposedly solved in the country, both of which have happened relatively recently as well it doesn't take a rocket scientist to figure out that something, somewhere is seriously going wrong and that it will take serious measures to correct it. The police are one of the cornerstones of any democratic society but so many large and glaring mistakes, or 'human error', does not instill much confidence at a time when the Gardai needs as much of it as possible.
